At Our V.I.L.L.A.G.E of Dreamers, we believe that literacy is a powerful tool for empowerment. Our Annual Book Drive aims to provide youth in underserved communities with access to books that inspire learning, creativity, and leadership.
Empowering Young Girls: Guest Speaker “Shay” Solomon Inspires at Pretty Blessed Girls Conference
On March 8, 2025 Our V.I.L.L.A.G.E of Dreamers had the honor of participating in the Pretty Blessed Girls Conference, where our founder, Shaphette “Shay” Solomon, was invited as a guest speaker to empower and uplift young girls through interactive discussion, storytelling, and mentorship.
A Powerful Message of Strength & Wisdom
Shay took the stage with an engaging and uplifting message: “UNSTOPPABLE: Real Girls, Real Issues, Real Power.” She didn’t just speak to the young ladies—she spoke with them, making sure every girl in the room felt seen, heard, and empowered.
Using props with inspirational quotes, she encouraged the girls to reflect on the meaning behind phrases like:
✅ “Your Attitude Determines Your Direction”
✅ “Be Braver Than You Believe, Stronger Than You Seem, and Smarter Than You Think”
✅ “You Got This”
Instead of simply explaining these words, Shay asked the girls what these phrases meant to them, encouraging them to connect these ideas to their own lives. Each young lady had the chance to share stories of real women in their lives who embodied strength and resilience. One young girl shared how her mother’s courage and leadership helped their family when her father went away for an extended period of time, showcasing a powerful example of everyday strength.
Crowd Participation & Girl Power in Action
What made this experience even more impactful was the interactive discussions. When one young girl asked, “What does ordinary mean?” Shay turned the question to the audience, allowing the girls to help define it together. Hands eagerly shot up, and the group collaboratively built their own understanding of the word—proving that when girls lift each other up, their voices become even stronger.
By engaging with two different age groups, Shay ensured that each girl walked away feeling empowered, inspired, and in control of her own story.
